Mojo | The Best Book on Executive Coaching?
When a friend and colleague suggested I read Marshall Goldsmith’s book ‘Mojo’, I have admit I was put off by the title.
I then noticed that the book had a testimonial from Warren Bennis, and that The Times and Forbes had voted Marshall as one of the top 10 business influencers in the world...
I became interested, and on reading found it one of the most useful and practical books on coaching senior executives that I’ve ever read.
Anyone with a good NLP background will be able to apply what he says immediately.
‘Mojo’ is a bit like ‘flow’ in that it’s ‘the moment when we do something that’s purposeful, powerful, and positive and the rest of the world notices.’
To increase your Mojo, Marshall suggests we focus on four building blocks: Identity, Achievement, Reputation and Acceptance. He outlines fourteen tools related to these building blocks which will lead to improving our ‘Mojo’.
The following list explains the quadrants and identifies one tool from each:
Identity
Understanding who you are
Tool # 1: Establish criteria that matter to you
Achievement
Making it easier to get things done
Tool # 5: Rebuild one brick at a time
Reputation
Taking control of your story
Tool # 8: When to stay; when to go
Acceptance
Change what you can; let go of what you can’t
Tool # 12: Influence up as well as down
Highly recommended.

Contributors receive 50% of any sales through their affiliate code. I think it’s a great model for purchasers and contributors as well.
We still have space for one or two more contributors. If you have any genuinely useful NLP or NLP related material that could be included, and you would like to be a contributor, please call me. You can see a very draft mock up of the home page from: NLP Leadership Conference.
You can find draft notes to contributors on the following Google Document: The NLP Leadership Conference 2010 | Invitation to Contribute.
A Useful Guide to NLP for Coaches | Extract 5 Frame
You can read the fifth extract from our eBook here: A useful Guide to NLP for coaches: Extract 5
This short extract discusses setting a ‘Frame’ for the session. The first element of the framework introduced last month.
Feel free to comment if you’re a member of our forum. And it’s free to join if you’re not!
You can buy the book from the following link: A Useful Guide to NLP for Coaches.
We will shortly be bringing out a DVD companion to our ‘A Useful Guide to Coaches’ ebook. You can see and listen to a short video also about the opening ‘Frame’ here: NLP Coaching Video
Frame.
NLP Definition of the Month: Towards
‘Towards’ refers to a motivational pattern marked by seeking to accomplish or achieve a particular goal.
This is the opposite of someone who is motivated ‘away’ from a particular problem. A practical application of this is in presenting. As some people within an audience are likely to be motivated by ‘towards’ statements and other are motivated by ‘away’ statements, it’s often best to use both. For example:
“We know some of you don’t like the noise in the reading area (away) so we’ve created a separate special place where those of you who want to debate issues can do so (towards).”
You can see more definitions by following this link: NLP Training: Glossary A-Z.
And Finally...
Something very different: my son Liam has entered a two-minute movie competition with his very short movie My Sunrise.
“You don’t know how lucky you are walking around in the daytime”
Just a thought!
My Sunrise
Take care and much success,
