  • And Finally…

Beale’s Podcast

This month I’m revisiting one of our most popular podcasts on the subject of motivation: John La Valle on Motivation. John explains that to do something you need:

  • The capability to do it
  • The belief that you can do it
  • A genuine want to do it – it needs to aligned to your values in some way
  • To take action
All these are worth exploring when you’re working with someone on motivation.

Next month I’ll have two new, excellent podcasts: Trevor Wilkins on Sales, and Judith Germain on building and developing her ‘Inner Network’. Both are well worth waiting for, so keep an eye out for them next month.

What Every Body is Saying

What Every Body is Saying is my favourite book on Body Language; it’s by Ex-FBI Agent Joe Navarro. I like it because I believe, unlike with many body language books, that what Joe says is both true and extremely useful for any coach, consultant or NLP practitioner.

The basis of the book is that it is remarkably difficult to tell whether someone is being truthful or deceitful; however, with practice, it’s easy to notice signs of comfort and discomfort – which can be exceptionally useful if you want to understand them better.

To give you an idea of the content, I’m listing his top ten commandments for decoding non-verbal communication successfully:

1) Be a competent observer of your environment

2) Observing in context is a key to understanding nonverbal behaviour

3) Learn to recognise and detect nonverbal behaviours that are universal

4) Learn to recognise and decode idiosyncratic behaviours

5) When you interact with others, try to establish a baseline

6) Always try to watch for multiple tells – behaviours that occur in clusters or in succession

7) It’s important to look for changes in a person’s behaviour that can signal changes in thoughts, emotions, interest or intent

8) Learning to detect false or misleading non verbal signals is also critical

9) Knowing how to distinguish between comfort and discomfort will help you focus on the most important behaviours for decoding nonverbal communication

10) When observing others, be subtle about it

A good NLP training will help you in much of the above - recommended!

More for 2010

Do take advantage of what we’re offering!

As our February/March Practitioner course is now full, I’m planning to add another practitioner course in the spring. Please call if you’re interested and would like to influence the dates.

In addition to our programme we are:

Strongly supporting Richard’s seminar, ‘The Best of Richard Bandler’ in Amsterdam in May 2010

Working with NLP Business Trainer Paul Jarvis on a series of ‘NLP in Business’ diploma courses in Madrid and Geneva throughout the year (they’re a real must!).

You can see our current schedule on: NLP dates and registration.

NLP Video: NLP in Business

To find out more about NLP applications in Business, watch and listen to a short video where I explain to Liam Beale some of the business applications of NLP. Just click on this video link: Business Applications of NLP.

We’ve had well over 20,000 views to the videos in this series since we launched it as a test eleven months ago. I do recommend video as an additional marketing medium if you want your own messages to have wider distribution.

Coaching Network Update

We’re currently having a break from taking on new coaches for our executive coaching network as we’re consolidating for a couple of months and I’m spending some time planning our future direction.

I’d be very interested in talking to anyone who is looking for coaching services or buys coaching services who would be prepared to input to our future strategy. And of course I’d be delighted to talk to anyone who is looking for an executive or business coach now!

Definition of the Month: Trance Phenomena

Trance Phenomena are behaviours usually associated with deep hypnosis, such as amnesia, arm levitation, hallucination, pain control, etc

What I find interesting is our ability to do these behaviours in everyday life, sometimes without realising it.

NLP Training: Glossary A-Z

And Finally...

Remember my quick test of whether someone is going to achieve something (or not): see whether they can easily and comfortably imagine themselves doing the behaviour of the first, smallest step that will get themselves there.

As always, thank you for reading this. Remember it’s your unique experiences that contribute to the wisdom of the world.

Beale's Business NLP, Coaching, Sales and Attraction Newsletter - Jauary 2010

Hi, here’s your January 2010 newsletter from UK NLP trainer Michael Beale of PPI… bringing you valuable hints, tips and information on business NLP, coaching, sales, networking and attraction.

  • Have a Really Successful New Year
  • Ignore Everybody
  • Our Plans for 2010
  • NLP Video: Modelling
  • Ambition for our Coaching Network
  • NLP Definition of the Month: Trance Logic
  • And Finally…

Have a Really Successful New Year

Have a really interesting and successful New Year!

I’m one of those people who believe that success starts with us on the inside and in our ability to deal with whatever happens on the outside.

I wish you all those internal resources that will enable you to have a successful and enjoyable 2010... and in doing so contribute to, and be an inspiration to, others’ successes.

Ignore Everybody

(But maybe not until you have read this newsletter...)

Hugh MacLeod has made a success of drawing cartoons on peoples’ business cards. His book ‘Ignore Everybody – And 39 Other Keys to Creativity’ is enjoyable and easy to read, and dispenses a certain amount of part ‘obvious’ and part ‘tough’ wisdom.

You can get a flavour of the book from a random selection of the contents:
  • The idea doesn’t have to be big; it just has to be yours
  • Good ideas have lonely childhoods
  • You are responsible for your own experiences
  • Everybody has their own private Mount Everest they were put on earth to climb
  • Nobody cares – do it for yourself
  • The best way to get approval is not to need it
  • Remain frugal
  • Savour obscurity while it lasts
  • When your dreams become reality, they are no longer your dreams
  • This is not rocket science
Recommended!

Our Plans for 2010

We’ve been working enjoyably and hard to develop our 2010 offers; do take advantage of them.

Highlights include free taster evenings and special offers on these programmes:
  • SNLP Accredited Practitioner
  • Coaching Practitioner
  • Master Practitioner
  • Business Master Practitioner
They take place in the easily accessible town of Milton Keynes in the UK.

Our February and March Practitioner programmes are now almost full, so register now on our seminar registration form to get your place.

In addition we are:

Strongly supporting Richard’s seminar, ‘The Best of Richard Bandler’ in Amsterdam in May 2010

Working with NLP Business Trainer Paul Jarvis on a series of ‘NLP in Business’ diploma courses in Madrid and Geneva throughout the year (they’re a real must!)

You can check all dates on our: seminar registration form

Releasing our eBook, ‘A Useful Guide to Using NLP for Coaching and Mentoring’, which summarises much of what I’ve learned in the practical application of NLP over the past ten years. It comes out soon, so watch this space

We have also completely updated our NLP resources store. For example, we now have video clips from many of our Richard Bandler DVDs; these are well worth looking at whether you choose to buy the DVDs or not. We also have an additional range of recommended Jonathan Altfeld CDs and DVDs together with much, much more.

NLP Video: Modelling

Modelling is one of the core skills in NLP.

To find out more about modelling, watch and listen to a short video where I explain to Liam Beale three approaches to modelling and take him through Richard Bandler’s ‘Stealing a Skill’ exercise. Just click on this video link: Success through Modelling.

Ambition for our Coaching Network

Last month I said I’d set a challenge for the Executive and Business Coaching Network; the challenge was to get to the top of Google for the terms ‘executive coaching’ and ‘business coaching’ within 18 months.

Well, I’ve re-launched the site and we’ve already achieved number five for the term ‘Executive Coaching’ in the UK, so we’re well on track. Remember, this is about a group of coaches working together to provide great ‘coaching content’ rather than any clever ‘SEO’ activity.

I’m still looking for one or two additional coaches to help on the journey. Curious? If so, have a look at our Information for Coaches.

I’m particularly pleased we’ve started writing coaching case studies, as it gives the community an indication of the wide value of coaching.

Definition of the Month: Trance Logic

This is a fascinating phenomenon where if someone has been hypnotised and has carried out a post-hypnotic suggestion (for example, they’ve barked like a dog), they often come up with some ‘logical’ explanation of their behaviour; the ‘explanation’ is untrue and yet amazingly creative.

It’s worth remembering that as human beings we may be exceptionally creative when we justify what we do – but not necessarily accurate!

NLP Training: Glossary A-Z

And Finally...

I’m surprisingly proud of being a granddad! This is my granddaughter, Mia either being cute or learning how to deal with adults, or both. It looks good in full screen HD too!

As always, thank you for reading this. Remember it’s your unique experiences that contribute to the wisdom of the world.
